When Wanting is Not Enough

We don't miss the signs because we don't see them.

We miss them because we're not ready to accept what they mean.

Aba saw the signs. She felt them long before she admitted them. They appeared in the quiet moments in conversations that felt unfinished, in the effort that leaned heavier on her side, in the way her heart kept adjusting while everything else stayed the same.

Still, she stayed.

That's the human part of us. We don't let go easily. We hold on to potential, to memories, to the hope that love will eventually meet us where we are. Aba believed that patience would soften distance, that understanding would fill the gaps, that wanting something deeply might somehow be enough.

But wanting isn't enough.

She found herself explaining the same feelings in different ways, forgiving familiar disappointments, and slowly becoming smaller to make room for someone who no longer noticed the space she was giving up. What once felt like love began to feel like endurance.

The truth didn't arrive suddenly. It had always been there, in the silences, in the imbalance, in the way she felt lonely even when she wasn't alone.

Aba made a quiet decision, not out of anger, not out of pride, but out of clarity. She chose herself. She chose peace over familiarity and honesty over hope. She understood that leaving wasn't failure; it was self-respect.

She didn't stop caring. She simply stopped abandoning herself.

And so, that was the way it remained.

The signs were always there. This time, Aba listened.
